Junior Coach Program

The Halifax Hurricanes Junior Coach Program is available to young players who wish to be involved in coaching a team and starting their leadership experience. The purpose of the Junior coach role is to:

• Provide valuable mentoring and exposure to quality coaching and development for young athletes.
• Build confidence and teamwork by being a positive role model
• Offer an opportunity to give back to the ringette community
• To build leadership and transferrable skills to apply to other areas of life

Once the coach has turned 18, they are expected to have completed the full Community Sport or Competition Introduction Stream.

To qualify to be a junior coach, you must meet the following criteria from the HHRA Team Staff Policy:

1. Junior Coaches must be a minimum of 14 years of age (they may join a team mid-season until January 15th once they turn 14) and a maximum of 17
   years of age by September 1st of the current ringette season.
2. Junior Coaches must be a current ringette player (or taking a season off due to injury, etc.).
3. There is no limit to the number of Junior Coaches on a team roster.
4. Junior Coaches DO NOT qualify as the fully certified female coach on the bench.
5. Travel expenses for Junior Coaches are not the responsibility of the team or association, unless agreed to by the majority of the parents/guardians on
   the team.
6. Junior Coaches must complete the training requirements as per Section 7.17.6 (Coach Initiation in Sport e-module, Safe Sport Training or Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders, Understanding the Rule of Two e-module) by December 15th.
7. Junior Coaches must submit a Junior Coach Application no later than September 30th

If approved, you will need to be registered on a team roster in the Junior Coach role with either the Children's Ringette Program (Active Start, Fun 1, Fun 2) or with a U10, U12, U14 team.
 
Junior Coaches will begin to take NCCP coaching courses at the Community Sport - Initiation and Competition - Introduction contexts for Ringette across Canada. NCCP will provide access to training and evaluations, however, Junior Coaches under 16 years of age will be identified in the Coaching Association of Canada’s database as “Trained - Under 16”. Junior Coaches will receive “Certified” status on their 16th birthday.

Information for applicants to have available when applying:

• National Coaching Certification number - NCCP#: If you do not have an NCCP# yet, please go to https://thelocker.coach.ca/account/login and create one before completing this form. The locker keeps a list of the courses you have done.
• Reference details: The name, phone and email address of someone we could contact for a reference to support your application (for example, a teacher, a supervisor from a job or volunteer work, a previous ringette coach, a coach/leader from another sport or activity).
• Training Completed: Gather information on which coach related courses you have taken. The Locker keeps a record of this.
• Contact details: Applicant's email and phone number and the email address of at least one parent/guardian.

We hope a number of players whose home association is the Halifax Hurricanes, will step up to the role of Junior Coach this season.
